Our Legacy of Legendary Jeans
The Earl Jeans® story begins in Los Angeles, where our founder Earl Richards discovered his passion for working with denim. As a lifelong admirer of the iconic Levi’s brand, Earl was inspired to create his own line of jeans that combined classic workwear cuts with modern fabrics and finishing techniques.
In 1999, Earl leveraged his expertise as a master tailor to launch his namesake label. Staying true to his roots, he focused exclusively on making the perfect pair of jeans. Using hand picked premium denim from North Carolina’s famed Cone Mills textile plant, Earl crafted each jean design from scratch, paying meticulous attention to wash, distressing, and hardware details.
The result was a collection of rugged yet refined jeans that set new standards for quality and comfort. Earl Jeans® quickly earned a reputation for unmatched attention to detail and insistence on only the finest materials.

Over the past two decades, we’ve proudly upheld Earl’s legacy through three generations of family ownership. As we’ve grown, our dedication to our heritage guides everything we do. We still source the majority of our denim from Cone Mills and cut all our patterns in-house. Our washes continue to be hand-sanded and finished for a level of character you can’t get from mass production. Made in the USA – Our Manufacturing Process
We proudly manufacture our entire line of jeans, apparel and accessories in our Los Angeles factories. This gives us complete control over quality, while supporting American communities and craftsmanship.
Our made-in-USA commitment starts with sourcing. We use premium denim from Cone Mills in North Carolina, as we have from our beginning. Their textiles set the standard for durability and authenticity. For other wovens and knits, we partner with family-owned mills in California and throughout the southeastern US.
Once the fabric arrives at our cutting facility, we meticulously layout each pattern by hand for precision placement of grainlines. Our expert cutters inspect every layer of denim to catch any imperfections before cutting begins.
Next, bundles of cut fabric components get transported to our LA sewing facility. Here our talented sewers stitch each jean, jacket and shirt to exacting specifications. We still use traditional techniques like chain stitching for authenticity and strength. At multiple checkpoints, construction and quality control experts examine each garment at micro detail before it gets approved.
The final step takes place at our in-house laundry, where we artfully apply our proprietary washes. Our wash experts experiment with hundreds of combinations of enzymes, stones, and techniques until we achieve the perfect fade and feel. Each pair then gets hand finished with meticulous repairs and distressing before rolling off the line.
By controlling the entire production process from denim sourcing to final finishing, we can ensure Earl Jeans® apparel meets our unwavering standards for quality and durability. Our customers know they’re getting an authentic American classic, crafted with care by skilled artisans.
Responsible Manufacturing
At Earl Jeans®, we believe well-made apparel and ethical business practices go hand in hand. We proudly adhere to fair labor standards across our supply chain.
Our US factories provide safe, supportive workplaces where skilled sewers and laundry technicians earn a living wage in their community. We regularly inspect all facilities to ensure fair treatment.
For our imported fabrics and materials, we actively partner with vendors who share our values around ethical production. We audit working conditions at all suppliers, and work together to make improvements when needed.
We also aim to reduce waste and environmental impact across our operations. Our state-of-the-art laundry system recycles over 90% of the water used in washing. And we donate all waste denim and fabric remnants to charitable housing insulation programs.

Distressed denim with an ultra-relaxed fit through the hip and thigh for a slouchy, laidback vibe. Made from soft Japanese stretch denim, finished with extreme hand sanding, whiskering and distressed details. Comes in medium and dark washes.
